Introduction

Hastelloy G-30 Alloy (also Hastelloy G30Alloy G-30Nickel Alloy G-30UNS N06030 Alloy) is a high‑chromium nickel‑based alloy designed for outstanding resistance to phosphoric acid, nitric acid, and mixed acids. It conforms to ASTM B582 (plate/sheet), ASTM B619 (welded pipe), ASTM B622 (seamless pipe/tube), and ASTM B581 (bar), as well as ASME SB582 and SB619. This advanced chemical process alloy is widely specified in the fertilizer industry, where it outperforms stainless steels and many other nickel alloys in aggressive acid environments.


Key properties of Hastelloy G-30:

  • Exceptional phosphoric acid resistance – superior performance in wet process phosphoric acid (WPA) and superphosphoric acid, especially with fluoride and chloride impurities

  • Nitric acid resistant alloy – excellent resistance to concentrated and fuming nitric acid, as well as mixed acid streams (HNO₃ + HCl, HNO₃ + HF)

  • Sulfuric acid resistant nickel alloy – good resistance to dilute sulfuric acid and mixed acid solutions containing chlorides

  • Oxidizing acid resistant material – high chromium content (approx. 30%) provides outstanding performance in oxidizing environments

Note: G-30 is particularly suited for phosphoric acid evaporators, superphosphoric acid lines, and nitric acid tail gas heaters. It is not recommended for severely reducing environments (use B‑2/B‑3 instead).

Applications

1. Phosphoric Acid Production & Fertilizer Plants

  • Hastelloy G-30 for phosphoric acid production – evaporator tubes, heat exchanger shells, and piping in wet process phosphoric acid (WPA) plants. Exceptional phosphoric acid resistance extends equipment life in aggressive phosphate rock digestion (with chlorides, fluorides, and silicates).

  • Hastelloy G-30 for fertilizer plants – superphosphoric acid concentrators, reactor vessels, and transfer lines for NPK fertilizer production. High chromium nickel alloy withstands mixed acid conditions (H₃PO₄ + H₂SO₄ + HF).

  • Hastelloy G-30 for wet process phosphoric acid systems – flash cooler tubes, slurry piping, and filtration equipment. Superior corrosion resistance in mixed acids reduces downtime.


2. Nitric Acid Service & Acid Evaporators

  • Hastelloy G-30 for nitric acid service – tail gas heaters, ammonia burner tubes, and concentrated nitric acid piping. Nitric acid resistant alloy handles both dilute and fuming HNO₃ up to 110°C.

  • Hastelloy G-30 for acid evaporators – falling film evaporators and forced circulation heaters for phosphoric and nitric acid concentration. Oxidizing acid resistant material prevents rapid thinning.


3. Chemical Processing Equipment & Heat Exchangers

  • Hastelloy G-30 for chemical processing equipment – reactor vessels, distillation columns, and agitator blades for processes involving mixed acids (HNO₃ + HCl, H₃PO₄ + H₂SO₄). Sulfuric acid resistant nickel alloy with good chloride tolerance.

  • Hastelloy G-30 for heat exchangers – shell‑and‑tube exchangers for acid coolers, reboilers, and condensers in aggressive chemical service. Pitting resistant alloy prevents localized attack.
