Product details

Introduction

Nickel 200 Pipe (UNS N02200 / Alloy 200 / 2.4066) is a commercially pure wrought nickel pipe with a minimum nickel content of 99.0%. It conforms to ASTM B161 (seamless pipe and tube) and ASME SB161, and is available in both seamless and welded forms.

This pure nickel pipe is distinguished by its combination of excellent corrosion resistance, particularly against caustic alkalis (including molten caustic soda), along with high thermal conductivity (70.2 W/m·K) and high electrical conductivity. It also offers good mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, is ferromagnetic, and exhibits excellent ductility and fabricability.

This industrial pure nickel pipe is the preferred material for caustic soda production and handling, chemical processingfood processingpharmaceutical equipmentheat exchangers, and electronics applications. Available in a full range of product forms including Nickel 200 seamless pipewelded pipetubeplate, and bar, with Schedule 40, Schedule 80, heavy wall, and thin wall options.

Applications

1. Caustic Soda Production & Alkali Service

  • For caustic soda production, evaporation, and handling systems, Nickel 200 pipe for caustic soda delivers outstanding resistance to sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) across all concentrations—including the molten state. This alkali resistant nickel material is the standard choice for caustic evaporators, concentrators, and piping systems in chlor‑alkali plants.

  • For alkali service in chemical processing, Alloy 200 pipe handles strong caustic solutions at elevated temperatures where other materials fail. The pure nickel pipe maintains integrity in sodium hydroxide production and storage, as well as in phenol storage and transportation.

2. Chemical Processing & Storage

  • For chemical processing equipment including reactors, storage tanks, and transfer lines, Nickel 200 pipe for chemical processing provides excellent resistance to neutral and reducing media. It is particularly suited for fluorine generation, hydrogen chloride production, and chlorination of hydrocarbons.

  • For chemical storage and transport of aggressive alkalis and organic chemicals, ASTM B161 seamless pipe maintains product purity with non‑contaminating corrosion resistance. This pure nickel seamless pipe is widely used in synthetic fiber production and soap manufacturing.

3. Food Processing & Pharmaceutical Industry

  • For food processing equipment requiring high purity and corrosion resistance, Nickel 200 pipe for food processing provides non‑toxic, easy‑to‑clean surfaces that withstand repeated sterilization cycles. It is used in dairy processing, edible oil handling, and juice production.

  • For pharmaceutical equipment in API synthesis and high‑purity water systems, UNS N02200 pipe maintains surface integrity and product purity in clean‑in‑place systems. This industrial pure nickel pipe meets stringent hygienic design requirements.

4. Heat Exchangers & Power Generation

  • For heat exchangers and condenser tubing, Nickel 200 pipe for heat exchanger offers high thermal conductivity (70.2 W/m·K)—approximately three times that of stainless steel—ensuring efficient heat transfer in caustic and high‑temperature water service.

  • For power generation equipment and heat transfer applications, Nickel 200 seamless pipe provides long‑term reliability in aggressive cooling water and high‑temperature steam environments. The alloy is also resistant to sea water and steam at high temperatures.

5. Electronics & Aerospace

  • For electronics applications including battery components, connector pins, and semiconductor equipment, Nickel 200 pipe and tube provide high electrical conductivity (8.5 µΩ·cm resistivity) with excellent fabricability.

  • For aerospace components requiring reliability under extreme conditions, Nickel 200 pipe offers good mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, from cryogenic to elevated service.

6. Marine Industry & General Industrial Service

  • For marine industry applications, Nickel 200 pipe offers good resistance to seawater corrosion, making it suitable for offshore operations and tropical environments.

  • For general industrial service including combustion boats, laboratory crucibles, and spun anodes, Alloy 200 pipe provides the combination of corrosion resistance, ductility, and fabricability required for diverse applications.

FAQ – Nickel 200 Pipe

Q: What is the difference between Nickel 200 and Nickel 201?

A: Nickel 200 pipe (UNS N02200) has a carbon content of 0.15% max and is the standard grade for general corrosive service up to 600°F (315°C). Nickel 201 is the low‑carbon version (0.02% max C) preferred for elevated temperature service above 600°F to prevent graphitization and embrittlement.

Q: Is Nickel 200 pipe suitable for caustic soda service?

A: Yes. Nickel 200 pipe has outstanding resistance to caustic alkalis including sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide across all concentrations—even in the molten state. It is the alkali resistant nickel material of choice for caustic evaporators, concentrators, and piping systems in chlor‑alkali plants.

Q: What are the key standards for Nickel 200 pipe?

A: ASTM B161 is the primary specification for Nickel 200 seamless pipe and tubeASTM B162 covers plate and sheet; ASTM B160 covers bar; ASME SB161SB162, and SB160 are the ASME equivalents for pressure vessel applications.

Q: Can Nickel 200 pipe be welded?

A: Yes. Nickel 200 pipe offers very good weldability and formability. It can be welded using TIG, MIG, and other standard processes without special preheat requirements. The material maintains its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties in the as‑welded condition.

Q: What are the thermal and electrical properties of Nickel 200 pipe?

A: Nickel 200 pipe has a thermal conductivity of 70.2 W/m·K—approximately three times higher than stainless steel—and an electrical resistivity of 8.5 µΩ·cm. These properties make it ideal for heat exchangers and electrical applications.
