Product details

Introduction

ASTM B677 Seamless Nickel Alloy Pipe is the standard specification for nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum alloy seamless pipe and tube intended for general corrosive service. This specification covers four grades: UNS N08926 (Alloy 926 / 1.4529) , UNS N08925 (Alloy 925) , UNS N08354 , and UNS N08935 , available in cold‑worked or hot‑finished conditions.

UNS N08926 (Alloy 926 / 1.4529) is the most widely used grade. It is a 6% molybdenum nickel alloy with nitrogen and copper additions, offering high pitting resistance equivalent (PRE ≥ 43) and excellent chloride corrosion resistance. This seawater resistant nickel alloy is commonly specified for chemical processing, seawater systems, and FGD scrubbers. UNS N08925 nickel alloy pipe and UNS N08354 seamless pipe are nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy grades offering reliable general corrosive service performance. UNS N08935 seamless nickel alloy tube, a nickel-iron-chromium-molybdenum-nitrogen alloy, is the newest addition, delivering enhanced corrosion resistance through nitrogen alloying.

Available in cold-worked and hot-finished conditions, 1/2″ to 12″ NPS, with custom size, large diameter, thin wall, and Schedule 40 options.

  • 6% molybdenum nickel alloy delivers excellent chloride corrosion resistance and high corrosion resistant nickel alloy pipe performance.

  • UNS N08925 seamless pipe and UNS N08354 seamless nickel alloy pipe serve less aggressive chemical environments as general corrosive service alloy.

  • Alloy 926 seamless pipe and UNS N08935 seamless nickel alloy tube used in heat exchanger bundles and condenser tubing where high temperatures and corrosive media combine.

2. Seawater Systems & Marine Environments

  • Alloy 926 seamless tube for seawater systems – seawater intake, cooling water, brine handling in desalination and offshore.

  • Seawater resistant nickel alloy with 6% molybdenum eliminates pitting and crevice corrosion in warm, high‑chloride conditions.

  • ASTM B677 pipe and Alloy 926 pipe used in offshore platform process piping, seawater lift pumps, and desalination feed lines.

  • UNS N08926 nickel alloy pipe serves ballast water treatment and shipboard seawater cooling loops, resisting biofouling and erosion‑corrosion.

3. Pulp & Paper / FGD Scrubber Systems

  • Alloy 926 tube for pulp and paper industry and UNS N08926 nickel alloy pipe for FGD scrubber systems resist bleach plant chemicals and low‑pH, high‑chloride scrubber liquor.

  • High corrosion resistant nickel alloy pipe maintains integrity in chlorine dioxide bleaching lines and FGD recirculation loops.

  • ASTM B677 pipe and Alloy 925 seamless tube specified for absorber tower internals, quench nozzles, and mist eliminators.

4. Pharmaceutical Equipment & Oil and Gas

  • ASTM B677 pipe for pharmaceutical equipment – API synthesis and clean‑in‑place systems; Alloy 926 seamless pipe resists cleaning agents and acidic solvents without contamination.

  • 1.4529 seamless pipe provides smooth, crevice‑free surface meeting hygienic design requirements.

  • UNS N08926 seamless tube for oil and gas industry – topside chemical injection, subsea control tubing, produced water handling in wet CO₂ and moderate H₂S.

FAQ – ASTM B677 Nickel Alloy Pipe & Tube

Q: Which ASTM B677 grade should I choose for seawater service?
A: UNS N08926 (Alloy 926 / 1.4529) is the preferred grade for seawater and high‑chloride brine due to its 6% molybdenum nickel alloy content and high PRE value, offering superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance.

Q: What is the difference between Alloy 926 and Alloy 925?
A: Alloy 926 (UNS N08926 nickel alloy pipe) contains 6% molybdenum, nitrogen, and copper, providing higher pitting resistance and chloride tolerance. Alloy 925 (UNS N08925 seamless pipe) has lower molybdenum and offers good general corrosive service performance for less demanding environments.

Q: Can ASTM B677 pipe be welded without post‑weld heat treatment?
A: Yes. All grades can be welded using TIG, MIG, or SAW with matching filler metal. The solution‑treated condition provides good weldability; PWHT is generally not required for most corrosive service.

Q: What is the maximum operating temperature for Alloy 926?
A: Alloy 926 seamless pipe performs well up to approximately 350–400°C (660–750°F). For higher temperatures, nickel‑chromium‑molybdenum alloy grades such as Alloy 625 are recommended.
